Jerry Benson, Piano Tuner-Technician

I love music.  I have been around it all my life.  It can inspire and motivate or it can calm and sooth.  Because I enjoy music and have made it a part of my life.  I enjoy being able to help make a piano sing.  Pianos are wonderful instruments.   They are complex and need to have regular attention if they are to play their best.  It is particularly satisfying to me to be able to work on a piano and see the difference it makes.  I am a member of the Piano Technicians Guild.  It is a professional organization dedicated to promoting the highest standards of piano service.

People often ask how often a piano should be tuned.  Not to be evasive, but the answer is:  it depends.  Pianos in concert halls are tuned before every performance.  Other performance venues have them tuned weekly.  However, for the home environment, that is not necessary.  The three things which affect the tuning of a piano the most are playing it, changes in temperature, and changes in humidity.

The conventional wisdom is that pianos that are played regularly should be tuned twice a year.  That keeps them close to where they should be.   The difficulty is that a piano is a complex instrument and tuning it is not in the skill set of of most musicians.   You might check the Article tab.  It has an article from the Piano Technicians Guild.

My fee for maintenance tuning is $125 plus sales tax. This service is appropriate for pianos that are maintained regularly. Full service tuning is $160. Full service includes maintenance tuning plus additional services as needed: minor repairs, pitch raising and action adjustments.  Please be aware that I do not service spinets (those are the short ones 36″ to 40″ tall that have a drop action) nor do I tune the older vintage pianos that are tall.

I serve clients all the way from South Salt Lake County to North Ogden.

I would enjoy being able to provide my services to you.
